Software Versions

All assignments and exams are done in Office 2007 under Windows XP.  Ensure that all electronic files submitted are Office 2007 compatible files.  Some functionality may be lost when converting files; if in doubt, create and save your files in Office 2007.

Submitting Assignments (General)

At various times, there will be both in-class and take-home assignments.  In-class assignments are done in class, and are generally due at the end of the class.  You must be in class, working on course material, and submit all files electronically to receive credit for an in-class assignment.  Take-home assignments are to be done on your own time, and have a due date and time.  Late assignments will not be marked.

If you would like to receive credit for an assignment, please ensure the following:

  1. Physical submissions (i.e. printouts) must have your name, course number, and section number on the front page.  All pages of an assignment must be stapled together, with the pages facing the appropriate way.  DO NOT submit assignments in folders, binders, plastic covers, etc. unless specifically requested.

  2. Each assignment must be submitted individually (do not staple multiple assignments together).

  3. Any required physical submissions (i.e. printouts) must be submitted to my assignment drop box.  (Assignments given to me, slipped under my door, e-mailed, or handed to the business division office will not be marked.)

  4. Electronic versions (if applicable) of all assignments must be submitted to my electronic inbox with the following file naming convention:
    COURSEXXX SECXXX Assignment Name FnameLname
For example, BUS140 SEC004 Video Store Queries John Smith.
For courses in Desire2Learn, submissions may also be made to the Desire2Learn dropbox.

  5. Assignments must be submitted on or before the due date and time. (Note:  The lab printers will be switched off at the beginning of class.)  Late assignments will not be marked.

On-line Assignments

Certain courses have an on-line component.  The on-line assignments have due dates posted on the site.  Once the due date/time has passed, the assignments will no longer be available. These assignments are marked automatically; there is nothing to hand in.

On-line Hands-on assignments and Quizzes in MYITLAB should be done at the college.  There is no support from lab techs if using your own computer.  (In other words, there is no recourse if your system crashes and MYITLAB cannot record your mark.).

Submitting Excel Assignments

For EACH Excel Assignment submitted, TWO printouts are required:

  1. One printout showing the results of the assignment (calculated values, formatting, etc.) without gridlines and without row and column headings.  This will often include making the printout fit on one page.

  2. One printout showing the forumulae used (CTRL `).  The gridlines and row and column headings must be shown, and the column widths must be adjusted to display the complete formula.
Click the Dialog Box Launcher on the Page Setup group of the Page Layout Tab.  Select the Sheet tab, and tick Gridlines and Row and Column Headings
The formulae must be legible (even if it means printing on more than one page).

  3. Electronic versions of all excel assignments must be submitted to my electronic inbox as indicated above.

Grades

The mark breakdown for each course is posted for that course.  From time to time, current unofficial overall percentages will be posted on my office door.  Students are encouraged to check the posted grades and discuss any discrepancies immediately.  The official final grades will be made available from the Registrar’s Office.

Classes

Students are expected to attend all classes.  As a business courtesy, please e-mail me if you are going to miss a class.  Business conduct is expected during class.  Please turn cel phones to vibrate, and leave the room if you must take a call or return a text.  Please refrain from IM, e-mail, Facebook, and texting during class.
Food and beverages may be brought into the labs in sealed containers, but must be consumed outside the labs.

Exams

Exam times are posted on the website and discussed in class.  Students must arrive on time to write an exam.  Missed exams can only be made up in the case of a medical emergency or family crisis.  A doctor’s note is required.  Please note that in medically valid cases, make-up exams may be scheduled during the next term.

Academic Conduct

Camosun College has an Academic Conduct Policy.  It is the student’s responsibility to become familiar with the contents of this policy.
